Movie Paradise reads 16 import sources: saved TV Time files, the exports of 13 other apps, a custom JSON/CSV format and your own Movie Paradise backup. What an export carries comes across as far as it matches a title here: watched episodes, ratings, watchlist and lists, on the same titles you already know.

You saved a TV Time export

A Liberator .zip, the gdpr-data.zip from a data export, or the two .json files TV Time Out wrote. Any of them imports as it is.

You already moved to another app

Trakt, Simkl, Letterboxd, IMDb, SeriesGuide, Showly and the newer trackers all export a file the importer reads. Bring that file instead.

If you have neither

TV Time closed in July 2026 and its exports closed with it. A history that only lived in TV Time and was never saved is gone: nobody, Movie Paradise included, can request or recover personal data from a service that no longer exists.

What still works: if you used any other tracker alongside it, export from there. Otherwise start from search, add the shows you remember, and mark what you have seen; the tracker keeps the pace from here on.

Saved TV Time files

Three kinds of file were ever written by TV Time or its extensions. Each one imports on its own; upload the history first when you have more than one.

Accepts: .zip, .json

  1. TV Time closed in July 2026 and its exports are gone, so this import works only with a file you already saved.
  2. Watch history (a saved TV Time Liberator export): Find the .zip that the TV Time Liberator Chrome extension downloaded for you. Upload it as it is.
  3. Comments & lists (a saved TV Time data export): Find the gdpr-data.zip you downloaded from TV Time before it closed. Upload it and choose the categories you want.
  4. Movies matching (a saved TV Time Out export): TV Time Out saved your series and movies as two separate .json files, with the most accurate movie matching. Upload the series file first, wait for it to finish, then upload the movies file.

Good to know

  • A new export cannot be requested from TV Time any more. Without a saved file there is nothing to import.

What transfers from where

Per app, what its export file carries into Movie Paradise, read from the importer that parses that file. What comes across still depends on what your export contains and on each title matching a title here.

Import from a service

Trakt

Accepts: .zip

  1. Go to trakt.tv, sign in, then go to Settings, Data, and click Export. Trakt generates a .ZIP file you can download immediately. It contains your watched history, ratings, watchlist, favorites, and lists.
  2. Upload the ZIP as is. Do not unpack it.

Letterboxd

Accepts: .zip

Go to letterboxd.com → Settings → Import & Export → Export Your Data. The ZIP contains your ratings, watchlist, and lists.

IMDb

Accepts: .csv

Go to imdb.com and export each section separately (Ratings, Watchlist, or Lists) using the ⋮ menu → Export.

Good to know

Simkl

Accepts: .zip, .csv, .json

  1. Go to simkl.com, sign in, then go to Settings and click Export. You can download your data as ZIP, CSV, or JSON.
  2. ZIP is recommended: it contains full episode history with per-episode watch dates. CSV works but is more limited (only last watched episode and one date per show).

Good to know

  • CSV exports carry only the last watched episode and one date per show; the ZIP keeps every episode date.

SeriesGuide

Accepts: .json, .zip

Open SeriesGuide on your Android device. Go to Settings, then Export and Import, and tap Export to file. Save the exported ZIP file.

Good to know

  • A full ZIP export is recommended when you want your custom lists.

Showly

Accepts: .json

Open the Showly app on your Android device. Go to Settings, tap Backup, then Export to file. It produces a single .JSON file. Upload it here as is.

More tracking apps

Refract

Accepts: .zip

In Refract, open Settings and choose Export Data. Upload the ZIP it creates. Your library, watched episodes, ratings and reviews all come along, with reviews landing as your comments. Lists will be supported soon.

Cinopsys

Accepts: .json

In Cinopsys, open Settings and create a Backup, then upload the JSON file it saves. Tracked movies, shows and watched episodes import with their dates and ratings.

TodoMovies

Accepts: .csv

In TodoMovies, open Settings and export your list as CSV. Watched status, dates and your ratings import; movies are matched exactly by their TMDB id.

Sofa Time

Accepts: .zip

In Sofa Time, open Settings and choose Export. Upload the ZIP as-is. Watched movies and shows, episode history, watchlist and stopped titles all import with their dates.

Moviebase

Accepts: .csv

In Moviebase, open Settings → Backup & Export and export as CSV (the JSON backup is not supported). Watched titles, episodes, watchlist and your ratings import.

  • Only the CSV export is supported; the JSON backup is not.

Eigabox

Accepts: .zip, .csv

In Eigabox, export your diaries. Upload the ZIP, or a single diary CSV. Movies and every watched episode import with their dates, ratings and likes.

Medialib

Accepts: .json

In Medialib, export your library. The app produces a .7z archive, so extract it first and upload the JSON inside. Movies, shows and watched episodes import; anime titles are not supported yet.

Restore or bring your own file

Movie Paradise

Accepts: .zip, .json

Upload the export ZIP you downloaded from Settings, or the data.json inside it. Your library, episodes, watch history, ratings, reactions, comments, lists, favorites and notes merge into this account; nothing already here is removed or overwritten. Not restored: profile settings, follows, images attached to comments, and smart list rules (those lists arrive as regular lists).

Custom (JSON/CSV)

Accepts: .json, .csv

  1. Use this to import from any source that isn't listed. The file format follows Trakt's Custom Import spec.

  4. Each row needs at least one of: imdb_id, tmdb_id, trakt_id, tvdb_id. type defaults to movie. Use "unknown" for watched_at when the date is missing. Format is auto-detected.
  5. Episodes: An episode row can use its own imdb_id, or the show's tmdb-show_id plus any of tmdb-episode_id, season and episode, or the episode's tvdb_id. When a type column holds an action such as "watch" instead of a media type, the media_type column supplies the type. A review column is accepted and ignored.

How matching works

Every row in an export is matched to a title by its ids: IMDb, TMDB, Trakt or TVDB, whichever the file carries. Episodes match by show and by season and episode number, or by their own id when the export has one.

Rows that match nothing are not dropped silently. After the import they are listed with the title and year the file gave, so you can see what did not come across. That list is for review; there is no manual re-matching step.

Limits

  • On the web, one import request can be up to 95 MiB including the upload overhead. Larger archives import through the mobile app. There is no unlimited tier.
  • Importing is free on every plan. Trakt two-way sync, which keeps the two accounts aligned after the import, is a Premium feature and a separate thing from importing a Trakt export file.
  • Each app is its own import. Run them one after another; the importer tells you when one is still in progress.

Questions

Can you recover my TV Time history for me?

No. TV Time is closed and its data export is closed with it. Only a file you saved before the shutdown can be imported.

My app is not in the list.

Use the Custom JSON/CSV import: any file that follows Trakt's custom import format, one row per title or episode with an IMDb, TMDB, Trakt or TVDB id, comes in the same way.

My export is bigger than 95 MiB.

Import it from the mobile app, which is not bound by the web request limit. The account is the same; nothing needs to be repeated afterwards.

Does importing cost anything?

No. Imports are free on every plan.

Where do I upload the file?

In the web app under Settings, Import: sign in, pick the app the file came from, and upload it. The same importer is in the mobile app's settings.
